MP appeals for support towards establishment of Cancer Treatment Centre in Berekum

Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Berekum East constituency in the Bono Region, has appealed for support to establish a cancer treatment centre in the constituency.

The MP said he is collaborating with the Berekum Holy Family Hospital to establish the centre, explaining that a structure had been acquired and is undergoing renovation to serve as the facility.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Berekum, Elder Kyeremeh appealed to philanthropists, corporate and religious organizations, as well as wealthy citizens of Berekum, both at home and abroad, for support.

He noted that “cancer is one of the diseases that is rapidly claiming lives in our country,” underscoring the need for the centre to enhance early detection and management of cases.

Elder Kyeremeh emphasized that, if detected early, cancer and related conditions could be treated.

He added that the lack of a treatment centre is contributing to the rise in cases, stating, “We need machines and equipment to screen suspected cases for confirmation and management.”
