MP TOURS

The MP for Asante Akyem North, Mr. Baah-Wiredu, has visited some communities in his constituency to know their problems and see how to assist them. They include Obenase, Patriensa, Nyaboe and Bima. At Obenase, the MP learnt that there are cases of Buruli Ulcer and Bilharzia. There is also an outbreak of bilharzia at Bima while at Nyaboe some people are suffering from skin rashes. Mr. Baah-Wiredu attributed these problems partly to surface mining in the area and called on the health authorities, the Water and Sewerage Corporation and the District Administration to team up to find a solution. He urged the Minerals Commission to conduct an indepth investigation into the effects of surface mining in the area. The Ministries of Environment, Science and Technology, Food and Agriculture and Lands and Forestry should also collectively find a lasting solution to the problems of surface mining. Mr. Baah-Wiredu asked the District Assembly and the traditional councils to make the public know how much has been received in royalties and how they were disbursed to ensure probity and accountability. He commended the SDA Church for building a Vocational/Technical School at Patriensa. gri
