MP Sets Up Foundation

Koforidua (E/R), - The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, has decided to donate his monthly salary of 327,000 cedis to a "Hackman Foundation" he has set up to promote education and development in his constituency. He has already voted three million cedis as the initial fund to be used to offer scholarships to needy children and assist the people of Jumapo to construct a place of convenience estimated at 15 million cedis. Mr. Owusu-Agyeman announced this when he addressed rallies at Akwadum, Asokore and Effiduase as part of his meet-the-people tour of the constituency at the weekend. He also inspected damage caused to roads and houses as a result of recent rains. Mr. Owusu-Agyemang urged the people to bury their political differences and embark on self-help projects. He took note of the problems of water, drainage and environmental degradation facing the people and assured them of government's efforts to deal with them. He said the rehabilitation of the Effiduase-Oyoko road would be offered on contract this year. Mr. Owusu-Agyemang, who is also the Foreign Affairs spokesman for the New Patriotic Party, told a questioner that the opposition walk-outs in Parliament were part of the democratic practice of registering a political grievance. The Nifahene of Asokore, Nana Kwadwo Ababio, appealed to the New Juaben Municipal Assembly to assist the people to rehabilitate the Roman Catholic JSS block which was damaged by a rainstorm. He expressed fears that 90 bags of cement allocated to the town by the assembly some three months ago would go waste unless they were used at once to complete the projects. The chief of Effiduase, Nana Omane Akyeamfuor, also appealed for immediate execution of the road rehabilitation project began some months ago before the rains wash off the initial work done.
