Director of Animal Production, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Kwamina Akorful has refuted allegations of a possible compromise of the Committee working to select the National Best Farmer.

He said the criteria and selection procedures are so cumbersome for any of the Committee members to be compromised.

Speaking on GBC's Current Affairs Programme "Focus", which discussed this year's National Farmers Day which will be held in the Ashanti Region next month, Mr. Akorful said there will not be any Regional celebration this year.

He said though all the policies and structures needed for the growth of Agriculture are in place, lack of resources to the Sector is hindering growth.

The Deputy Director of Fisheries, Thomas Insaidoo noted that since the inception of the Farmers Day no Fisherman has won the ultimate prize which he describes as unfortunate.

Mr. Insaidoo expressed worry about the use of detergents like Omo and dynamite by some fisherman to bait fish.

He said though some arrests have been made, the sanctions meted out to the culprits are not punitive enough.

Meanwhile, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will open the Agricultural exhibition show on Friday ahead of the 2017 National Farmers Day.

The exhibition will showcase products in the Agricultural Sector.

Director of Animal Production at the Ministry of Food And Agriculture, Kwamina Akorful, said the exhibition is a way of opening new avenues for more investments in the Agricultural Sector.
