Accra, Jan. 10, GNA - The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has donated six Pick-Ups vehicles valued at 993.2 million cedis to the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Narcotic Control Board to enhance their operations.

A statement signed by Mr Frank Asante, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry said the contribution was in response to a request by NADMO to the Ministry for 25 Pick-Ups to facilitate training and monitoring. Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, commended the two institutions in ensuring the well being of Ghanaians and urged them to keep to the maintenance schedules of the vehicles.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang, Minister for Interior, thanked the Ministry of Local Government and appealed for assistance to NADMO to enhance its work.

He said since NADMO and District Assemblies seek the common good of people in the districts, the two Ministries would co-operate to ensure how to minimize bush fires and other disasters.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang underscored the alarming rate hard drugs were destroying people and urged Ghanaians to assist the Board to apprehend those engaged in the drug business.

He said Education on drug abuse by the Board was helping the youth. Mr Owusu-Agyemang later handed over the keys of the vehicles to Brigadier-General Dei and Colonel Isaac Akuoku, Director and Executive Secretary of NADMO and Narcotics Board respectively.
