Prosper Addo, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi West, has pledged rigorous monitoring to ensure the successful implementation of the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP).
The programme is designed to enhance vocational skills development, promote self-employment, and stimulate local economic growth within the municipality.
Addo described the NAP as a strategic intervention expected to boost the local economy and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth.
He disclosed that the first batch of beneficiaries comprised 30 apprentices and six master craft trainers.
According to him, the programme covered a range of trades, including seamstress, hairdressing, carpentry, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), equipping participants with industry-relevant skills and nationally recognised certification.
The MCE said the initiative formed part of the government’s broader effort to tackle youth unemployment in the country, where nearly 1.2 million Ghanaians between the ages of 15 and 35 are either unemployed or underemployed.
Mr Addo appealed to parents and guardians to support the apprentices throughout the training period to ensure its success.
The Oti Regional Director of the programme, Michael Mampah, urged beneficiaries to remain committed and make the most of the opportunity to improve their career prospects.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Krachi West, Madam Helen Adwoa Ntoso, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of Ghanaians through targeted skills development initiatives.
