Lower Manya Krobo GES risks eviction

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has been served an eviction notice to vacate its hired storey building at Atua due to recurrent indebtedness.

The Directorate would be moved out of its current location from where it has operated since 1975 if by the end of the year the outstanding amount of GHC 3,420.00 is unpaid.

An initial August eviction deadline was extended to December when the service managed a payment of GHC 3, 500.00 out of an initial amount of GHC 6,920.00, leaving the service with a four-month grace period to settle the rest of the amount, failure of which would necessitate an expulsion from the storey building and its adjourning ground flats.

Though the Ghana Education Service (GES) officials are tight-lipped on the issue, an eviction notice dated August 22, 2012, signed by Ms. Beatrice Nyakor, the landlady and served the Municipal Director was sighted by the Daily Graphic indicating that no extension would be made of the deadline if the service defaulted in the payment.

Ms. Nyakor in an interview said “I have had to take this stance because of the service’s persistent indebtedness. I have already given my action a human face by extending the initial deadline from August to December, but would not hesitate to drive them out if they disregard my directives”.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Irene Ayernor would not comment on the issue despite the numerous attempts by the Daily Graphic.
