Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, Head Pastor and Founder of Glorious Wave Church International has in an interview on SVTV Africa suggested that participating in a lottery, which is a form of gambling, is not a sin contrary to what some religious people put across.

Asked by the host what his stance was on the phenomenon, the man of God who unapologetically expresses his opinions, demanded from the host a scripture in the Bible that suggested that gambling was a bad thing.

Based on his line of argument, the Man of God insinuated that the notion that participating in the game was ‘evil’, was merely a thought created by humans.

“There are so many things we humans have enslaved ourselves with. I won’t say whether or not it is a sin. But ask yourself, is it a game, is it a sport or the Bible says nobody should play it? Then all footballers have sinned, then boxers have also sinned. Certain things are sports, they are games.

Some men of God win American Lottery, they take it, board a flight and leave. Is that not a lottery? Why are they using it? When they get to the States they settle and change their names. We are worrying ourselves about a lot of things. Ask the reason for which certain things exist,” he said.

Although many have come to accept the game in the country using several mediums including betting on games amongst others, some believe its continuous patronage becomes addictive, causes an individual to invest to be reckless with their savings which ends up ruining relationships and breaking homes.*

The game which involves drawing of numbers in a bid to win prizes according to reports is illegal in some jurisdictions while others have accepted it by organizing national lotteries.

The National Lottery Authority in Ghana first established as the Department of National Lotteries is mandated to organize raffles for the public for purposes of entertainment and in the process award winners.
