Lotto car set ablaze by angry mob

Wa, Jan. 20, GNA - A Nissan pick-up which usually conveys lotto coupons from Tumu to Wa was set ablaze by an angry mob for killing a three-year-old boy at Gwollu in the Sissala West District. Speaking to the GNA on phone Chief Inspector Douglas Asaana, the Deputy District Police Commander, said the driver, Ahmed Issah 47, who was travelling from Wa to Tumu through Gwollu on Wednesday knocked down Fahad Sulley killed him as he crossed the road.

He said the driver abandoned the vehicle and rushed to the Police Station to report when he saw the mob approaching him. He said the police responded swiftly but when they got to the scene of the accident the angry mob had already started vandalizing the vehicle.

Chief Inspector Asaana said the police tried their best to stop them from causing further damage to the car but in the process, the angry mob which could not be controlled started throwing stones at the police and they withdrew from the scene

They then pushed the vehicle into the bush and set it ablaze. The driver is under police custody pending further investigations. Mr. Edmond Sibiri, a citizen of the town who was an eye witness to the accident, told the GNA on phone that members of the community twice tried constructing speed ramps on the road to prevent speeding but they were prevented by the police.
