Legal practitioner and broadcaster, Samson Lardy Anyenini has called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision for fighting galamsey.

The broadcaster believes that the fight against galamsey can be curbed if the Mahama administration puts into motion Dr. Bawumia’s blueprint for galamsey.

In a video sighted by Ghanaweb on JoyNews, he asserted that small-scale miners do not have the resources and facilities and therefore creating a common pool as suggested by Dr. Bawumia will help regulate these miners.

“I kept saying that, the Mahama administration should look at Dr. Bawumia’s blueprint for galamsey and some people didn’t understand me.”

“They should go in there and look at what exists there. Including creating the common pool of facilities to help the miners because they cannot afford…so that you regulate them properly.” He said.

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia proposed a preventative strategy that seeks to manage the activities of small-scale miners.

His solutions included empowering the Ghana Geological Survey Authority to map mineral reserves and creating a resource pool of equipment to support sustainable mining activities.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the use of mercury-free gold catcher machines to ensure the preservation of the environment and water bodies.
