London Based Ghanaians organise service for stadium disaster victims

An inter-denominational church service is to be held at the Kensington United Reform Chapel, London, on May 23 in memory of the victims of the Accra Sports Stadium disaster.

The service will be organised by the Ghana High Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Community Associations in the United Kingdom. This was contained in a statement issued by the High Commission in London and received in Accra. The statement said the High Commission has sent a letter of appreciation to the UK Football Association for observing a minute's silence prior to the recent FA Cup finals between Arsenal and Liverpool football clubs in memory of victims of the disaster.

Mr Chris Kpodo who signed the letter said the gesture underscores the UK Football Association's concern about the tragedy, which touched the hearts of football-loving people all over the world. He said the display of solidarity shown by the FA would forever be remembered by millions of Ghanaians, especially the bereaved families, and the football fraternity throughout the world.
