The Local Government Service Council has expressed support for collaboration between the Local Government Service and the Chartered Institute of Local Governance and Development (CILGD) in training, professional membership, research and consultancy.

CILGD presented its proposal at the Fifth Meeting of the Sixth Local Government Service Council on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

The proposal sought the Council’s guidance and support for initiatives aimed at strengthening professional development and institutional capacity among Local Government Service staff across the country.

Following the presentation, the Council provided guidance on the next steps and supported the two institutions to proceed with the necessary implementation arrangements.

The Council also advised CILGD to engage the Public Services Commission on the recognition of its professional certificates as qualifications that could be considered for promotion within the Local Government Service.

Any recognition of the certificates for promotion will be subject to the outcome of the engagement with the Public Services Commission and the applicable approval processes.

Membership of CILGD is open to Local Government Service staff, members of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), GLOSAC members, as well as public and civil servants.

Other professionals interested in local governance, public administration and development can also enrol.
