Liberians will not support bloody politicians - Movement

Accra, Aug. 1, GNA - The New Deal Movement (NDM), one of the Liberian political parties attending Accra Peace Talks, said on Friday that the party would not support the presidential aspirations of any politician, who had taken up arms against Liberians.

"The New Deal Movement and the Liberian people will not support anyone, who has taken up arms, directly or indirectly, against the Liberian people," a press statement signed by Mr Edwin T. Juah, Acting National Chairman of the Party said.

The statement also disassociated itself from a news item that linked the party to the presidential aspirations Bishop Augustus Marwieh.

The party was reacting to a story in an Accra Daily that linked the NDM to the campaign by Bishop Marwieh, Leader of the Agency for Holistic Evangelism and Development, to head the proposed interim government of Liberia.

The party described the news item "as a dishonest attempt... to give political mileage to the Bishop.

"The New Deal Movement wishes to categorically state and clarify that it is in no way associated and supportive of Bishop Marwieh's campaign for the interim presidency.

"The New Deal Movement's call for a neutral personality does not suggest a compromise of governance capacity in the form of training and experience."

The statement said the NDM was prepared to support any personality without political ambition, had not participated in previous political administrations and had no bloodstains on his or her hands.
