Liberian Refugees To Go Home

At the end of a long exile in Ghana, arrangements are in gear to ensure the repatriation of Liberian refugees to their home country.

Towards this end, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, (UNHCR) will jointly sign a tripartite agreement with the governments of Ghana and Liberia as a precedent to the commencement of the exercise.

The signing ceremony will be held at the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, 22nd September 2004 to be followed by a press conference. The parties according to a release from the UNHCR will be represented by the UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner, Kamal Morjane, Hon Hackman Owusu Agyeman and Liberia?s Minister for Rural Development, Mr C.B. Jones.

Ghana has hosted Liberian refugees ever since hostilities in this West African country broke out, most of whom are currently residing at the Bujumburam Refugee Camp outside Accra on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.
