Leukaemia Project Foundation launches competition to raise funds to treat patients

The Leukaemia Project Foundation has launched an arts and photo exhibition to create awareness and raise funds to support Leukaemia patients.

The arts and exhibition competition was on the theme "Leukaemia, hope beats fear".

Gerald Osei Boakye, President of the Foundation said, Leukaemia can be treated and managed if the patient is financially capable and has the emotional support.

He disclosed, the foundation’s vision of establishing a leukaemia unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where patients will receive full treatment at all stages of the disease.

“In the meantime, as the foundation is working on raising funds towards the project, we have decided to give the patients hope through these arts and photo exhibition. The competition is open from now till the 31st of March and everybody from 9-years and above who wants to participate can,” he noted.

Mr. Boakye explained that, the printings and photos from participants will be collected at the end of the contest and sold out to raise funds to support the Leukeamia patients.

“We will auction the printings all over the country, donate some to hospitals where patients are admitted and use the money generated from the auction to support patients,” he stated.

He said, selected participants will be made to compete at the final stage and the best will win items ranging from IPad, mobile phones, among others.

Mr. Boakye urged interested participants can log onto the foundations website to register.

Special Advisor to the Minister of Health, Dr. Baffour Awuah, who represented the Health Ministry at the launch, pledged the Minister’s support for the Leukaemia Project Foundation.

He said, the project by the Leukeamia Foundation is laudable as it is impossible for the Health Ministry to single-handedly perform its responsibility of providing quality healthcare to all citizens.

“The Ministry of Health pledges its support towards this project. Whatever support that you want the ministry to give we are ready to support you,” he stressed.
