Letter From The President: Are we safe?

Countrymen and women, loyalists and opponents in our country people often say that “life is short”. This is true indeed. People die of avoidable and treatable diseases like cholera, ‘kwashiorkor’ and malaria in Sikaman.

Sometimes, healthy people go to hospital with minor complaints but end up dying of serious complications resulting from a doctor’s incompetence or the lack of the requisite equipment and drugs to provide treatment for the minor ailment that sent him to the hospital in the first place. I hope you know about the case of the little boy who went to Korle Bu for the treatment of a sore on his left leg but ended up with his right leg amputated.

Apart from the appalling state of our health system, armed robbers have let themselves loose on us, terrorising people with machetes and guns. These armed robbers steal anything from mobile phones to colour TV sets to cash.
