Let's use reflective dresses during Easter - NRSC

May Obiri Yeboah, the Executive Director, National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has asked pedestrians and cyclists to use reflective or fluorescent clothing during the Easter celebrations to be seen by motorists.

She said figures indicated that pedestrian knockdowns and road crashes were high during such celebrations and asked people going for evening church programmes and parties to dress with road safety in mind.

The Executive Director gave the advice when she joined staff of the Commission in Ho on road safety campaign at the central market and lorry stations.

She described the road safety situation in the country after Good Friday as "so far, so good" saying no major road incident had been recorded.

Mrs Obiri Yeboah commended motorists for developing interest in road safety and urged all road users to ensure that this year's Easter was crash-free with no road accident related death.

She reiterated the call on drivers and passengers to use seatbelts and also asked motorcycle riders to use crash helmets and obey road traffic regulations.

Mrs Obiri Yeboah said the Commission was sacrificing its Easter holidays to ensure safety on the roads and called for support from all stakeholders.

Mr Kwasi Tsibu Yirenkyi, Volta Regional Manager of the Commission said the Region recorded 124 road crashes in the first three months of 2019 as against 139 for same period in 2018.

He said the cases for 2019 involved 160 vehicles, 66 motorcycles, 36 pedestrian knockdowns with three killed and 115 injured.

The Regional Manager said what was worrying was the recording of motorcycle crashes every three days with Akatsi, Sogakope, Dzodze, Agotime-Ziope, Ho and Hohoe being flashpoints.
