The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called for the collaborative efforts and contributions of staff at the ministry to ensure the attainment of the government's vision for the ministry.

During a brief interaction with his staff on Monday, January 27, 2025, as part of his assumption of office, the new minister outlined his objectives in the areas of deepening local governance, strengthening the chieftaincy institution, and facilitating the effective role of religious institutions.

“I am delighted to be here this morning to have my first interaction with you all as part of my assumption of office today, January 27, 2025. The purpose of this meeting is to get to know my staff, project coordinators, heads of departments, and agencies subsisting under the supervision of the ministry.

“Ladies and gentlemen, at this important meeting, it is imperative to also share the vision of my government for the Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs Ministry. It is worthy to note that the merger of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs as one entity is to ensure synergy and emphasize the role of these institutions in deepening decentralization and local governance to ensure effective service delivery to the people we are here to serve. In this regard, my primary focus will be on deepening decentralization and local governance, strengthening the chieftaincy institution to perform their roles, and providing the necessary facilitation for religious institutions to equally perform their assigned roles,” he stated.

He added that the ministry will also focus on sanitation and waste management, with the intention of keeping Ghana’s cities and towns healthy and clean.

He, therefore, called on the staff to commit to the objective, while assuring his commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders, including the media.

“I, therefore, expect that all staff will put their hands on deck and shoulders to the wheel to achieve these broad goals for the benefit of the Ghanaian people. In all these, I will work collaboratively with various stakeholders and partners, including the media, to achieve our vision as government and the local government, chieftaincy, and religious sector.

“On this note, I wish to take this opportunity to thank H.E. John Dramani Mahama for giving me this privilege to serve the people of this country as the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. Thank you for your attention, and I hope to count on your support,” he stated.

Ahmed Ibrahim, who is the Member of Parliament of Banda Constituency, was appointed Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs by President John Dramani Mahama, who is still in the process of forming his government, following his victory in the 2024 general elections.
