Let's Focus on Development - MP tells Assembly members

Tongo (UE), Feb. 24, GNA- Assembly members have been urged to focus more on how effectively they could bring development projects to the doorsteps of their people instead of fighting on party lines. Mr. John Akolgo Tia, a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Talensi-Nabdam Constituency made the call at the weekend in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tongo, Upper East Region after the assembly's first ordinary meeting.

He explained that as assembly members, their main roles were to see how they could brainstorm and explore innovative and effective means of bringing development to the doorsteps of their communities. "You need to remain focus on developmental issues to enable you to alleviate the suffering of your communities, especially in the provision of social amenities which could improve the livelihood of your communities", he emphasized.

Mr. Tia entreated Assembly Members to discuss developmental issues dispassionately, devoid of political affiliations during assembly's meetings.

He expressed disappointment about the way and manner Assembly meetings were used as a mere robber stamp for championing political agenda at the expense of deliberating on development issues that the masses yearned to be addressed.

He noted that as assembly members they were either elected or appointed to serve the interests of the people and nothing else and must therefore serve their interest since they were obligatory to serve them. Mr. Tia announced that, through his own efforts he had managed to seek 20 sewing machines from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs which would be presented to the District Assembly to be supplied to the Duusi Vocational Training Institute.

He said, the 20 machines would help enhance the output of the institute and the training of skilled self-employable people. 24 Feb. 08
