Legon Students Demonstrate

Accra, 9 June - The University of Ghana today blamed the delay in the release of its first semester examination results on ''technical difficulties in the computerization process''. Mr George Francis Daniel, the Registrar, told the GNA in an interview at Legon today, that the results have been manually released after an emergency meeting of the academic board. Mr Daniel said despite the delay, there will be no change in the examination time table. Students of the University undertook a two-hour demonstration on the campus today to back their demand for the release of the results before the second semester examinations start this week. They presented a protest note to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, in which they said they need to know their grades to decide whether to change or maintain their courses. Mr Joshua Sarpong, President of the Students' Representative Council, said the Vice-Chancellor promised to pressurize the departments to expedite work on the results. He said a similar situation arose in the first semester, adding that ''our latest action is to put an end to the practice'''.
