Legitimate Ga Mantse needed before Homowo – Ga queen

The kingmakers of the Ga state must ensure that the rightful king is enstooled and all disputes settled before the celebration of the annual Homowo festival of the Ga people, queen of the Ga Paramount Stool, Naa Dedei Omadru III, has said.

The queen, who was addressing some queens from various communities in Accra, bemoaned how chieftaincy disputes and multiple claims to the Ga stool had stalled peace and development in Accra.

Getting a successor to former Ga Mantse Boni Nii Amugi II, who died in 2004, has been problematic with litigation and occasional bloody clashes between rival factions.

About five persons are claiming to be the legitimate Ga Mantse and this Naa Dedei Omadru III believes does not augur well for the Ga state.

Commenting on the issue, Sempe Sukura Man-nye, Naa Adoley Ablade I, called on all the claimants and other individuals involved in the disputes to put the interest of the Ga state first.

He condemned individuals motivated by greed and love for money whom he said were the cause of troubles in the Ga state.

No queens at the event declared support for any of the claimants, with Naa Dedei Omaadru III stating categorically that there is no Ga Mantse at the moment.
