Lecturer drowns in swimming pool

A young lecturer at the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Fiapre near Sunyani, has drowned in a swimming pool of a guest house, having gone there to swim.

Theophilus Kyei Boamah, 27, was said to be on his usual rendezvous with a friend at the Shekhina Lodge at Abesim near Sunyani on Sunday afternoon, after he had closed from weekend lectures.

Superintendent Samuel Yankey, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE said the dead young lecturer was tipsy at the time of the incident.

The police chief said the deceased was rescued and taken to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital, Sunyani but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is currently at the same hospital's morgue pending autopsy.

Meanwhile, investigations are on-going the police officer said.

According to Supt. Yankey the deceased a teaching assistant at the university had been patronizing the hotel frequently and knew how to swim.

He pointed out that the police did not suspect any foul play for now but they would continue with their investigations to establish the cause of death.

The Catholic University has for the last four weeks lost two lecturers in bizarre circumstances.

It would be recalled that another young lecturer met his untimely death in a road crash recently when he was returning to Sunyani after obtaining his PhD certificate.
