Late Ya-Naa deserves justice, decent funeral - Rawlings

Just as other eminent persons receive decent burial after their demise, former President Jerry John Rawlings is hoping that the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II, who was assassinated in 2002, will also receive justice and a decent final funeral rite.

According to the former president, it was disturbing that successive governments have over the years failed to find justice for the family of the late traditional leader.

Mr Rawlings made the comment when the family of the late Ernest Debrah, a former Minister of Agriculture, who also served as regional minister for the Brong Ahafo and Northern regions in the Kufour administration, called on him on Thursday May 26.

Former President Rawlings told the family that: “I am hoping and looking forward to the late Ya-Naa also seeing justice being done over the manner in which he left us, so that his funeral may be carried out in a decent way for all of us to have the peace of mind the country needs and deserves”.

“For his departure to have gone on through three administrations without seeing the necessary justice to ensure a decent funeral for him is a painful load that some of us carry and this is something we should all be thinking about. Let us do justice to what led to his departure and I believe there will be a decent funeral,” Mr Rawlings added.

He described the late MP for Tano North as a quiet, amiable and unassuming person, adding it was painful when the country lost people like him and personalities such as Paul Victor Obeng, because the country needed people of their calibre.
