Lands Commission registers 1,285 lands in two years

Cape Coast, July 15, GNA - The Central Region Lands Commission has so far registered 1,285 lands since a lands registry was opened in the region two years ago.

Alhaji Mohammed-Abibu Alhassan, Regional Lands Officer, told the within a maximum of six months. He said this had been achieved through the determination of the government to quicken the processing of such documents to enhance the Land Administration Project (LAP) to build public confidence. Mr Alhassan said previously those who wanted to register such documents in the region had had to go through cumbersome and long processes, either traveling to Accra or Takoradi.

He said in view of this, many people failed to register their lands and that with the establishment of the registry in the region, his outfit could now fully process all such documents thereby making land acquisition quicker and easier.

Mr Alhassan expressed concern that chieftaincy and land disputes and malpractices such as the double sale of lands hindered the proper demarcation of lands, thereby making the work of the Commission difficult.

He expressed the hope that with time all lands including stool, state and family lands would be duly registered to stem litigation. 15 July 09
