Labour demo set for Nov. 20

The 12 labour unions fighting government over the second-tier pension scheme under the National Pensions Act of 2008 have scheduled Thursday, November 20 to stage a demonstration to press home their demands.

The unions are demanding their funds from government, claiming their employer is not supposed to single-handedly manage their funds.

There has been sharp disagreement as government claims as employer it reserves the right to be custodian of any public funds.

The contention is expected to be settled in court starting Tuesday, November 18.

Before then, the workers have resolved to hoist red flags at their offices.

They will follow up with a demonstration, which is expected to be replicated in the regional capitals – Western and Northern regions confirmed.

They say all legitimate means will be followed in getting government off management of their funds.
