The Registrar of the Engineering Council under the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Isaac Badu, has disclosed that the agency has assessed the majority of uncompleted buildings in Accra.
In an interview with Joy FM on March 30, 2026, Badu, while listing buildings currently under assessment, disclosed that the ministry has also held meetings with the developers and consultants of the well-known abandoned La Beach Towers.
According to him, once the ministry completes its assessment of the building, which has remained abandoned for over a decade, it will make the necessary recommendations.

“We’ve had meetings with the developers and consultants, and we are currently assessing it. Once we complete our assessment, we will make recommendations,” he said.
He further outlined the steps the council takes when it encounters such structures.
According to him, the council comes across such cases either during routine inspections or through reports, underscoring the need for stricter compliance with building regulations.
“When there is activity and the need arises to investigate, we assess to determine whether structures are unsafe. If we establish that they are unsafe, action is taken, and recommendations are made to the appropriate authorities,” he explained.
Engineer Isaac Badu’s comments come in response to the recent collapse of a three-storey building at Accra New Town, which claimed the lives of three people.
Meanwhile, La Beach Towers is a prominent, unfinished luxury residential development located on the La Beach waterfront in Accra.
Initiated around 2009 by Cypress Investments Limited, the project was designed as three 17-storey towers: Oceanic, Palms, and Waves, but construction stalled around 2016 due to financial and ownership challenges.
