LIVESTREAMING: 'Newsfile' on JoyNews

The Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo on Wednesday, March 14 filed a suit against the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni at the Accra High Court for causing financial loss to the state.

Dr. Opuni together with one businessman, Seidu Agongo are facing 27 charges including; abetment of crime and defrauding by false pretence, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, contravention of the Public Procurement Act, manufacturing fertilizer without registration, money laundering and corruption by public officer.

In reaction to the charges, the National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams said he is of the firm belief that Dr. Opuni is being witch-hunted and that his party will rally behind him but the Attorney General Gloria Akuffo has debunked his assertion saying her office is not witch-hunting any member of the opposition NDC but is only executing her mandate as stipulated by the laws of the state.

Also, Joseph Osei-Owusu’s comment on the ‘shoot-to-kill’ policy will be discussed in today’s edition of Newsfile. According to him, he's of the firm belief that the shoot-to-kill approach would put fear in illegal miners and deter them from engaging in the activity.

However, the Deputy Speaker’s suggestion has been condemned by many, with colleague legislators and security experts describing it as “reckless” and “wicked” approach to dealing with the menace.
