LIVE UPDATES: Asante Kotoko vs San Pedro - CAF Confederations Cup

After exiting the CAF Champions League, the Porcupine Warriors are on a campaign to seal qualification to the group stages of the Confederations cup, a feat they reached a season ago.

The visitors got to this stage of the competition with a walking victory in the preliminary round before eliminating Guinean side Santoba FC 3-0 on aggregate after a draw in the first leg.

This is the second season the Ivorian side are participating in the CAF confederations cup after being eliminated by Nkana FC during last year’s play-off. However, they have gone past the stage they reached last year and are hoping to down the Ghanaian giants in order to seal a place in the group phase.

Asante Kotoko on the other side have been hit with serious injury issues and will miss the services of Abdul Ganui Ismail, Richard Senanu, Abass Mohammed, Maxwell Barko and Wahab Adams. Striker George Abege was also confirmed to be out of action today by the club.

The Reds enjoyed an impressive unbeaten home record in the competition under the guidance of Coach CK Akonnor who spearhead to a historic feat last season. Similarly at this phase last season, the Porcupines defeated Coton Sport 5-3 on aggregate scoreline to advance to the next stage.

The tactics of Serbian coach, Zachariaseen will be experimented again today as the Porcupines seek to maintain their unbeaten run at home and earn a convincing win ahead of the second leg.

The winner of the two legs will move to the group stages also known as the Money Zone of the 2019/2020 CAF confederations cup competition in what looks to be a titan challenge.
