The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for declaring that he would not contest the presidency for a third term.
In a post shared on X, on August 28, 2025, the veteran journalist asserted that President Mahama’s affirmation is a testament to his belief in democracy.
“I give a big red salute to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) for his decision not to be on the ballot for the 2028 Presidential elections.
“I did not expect less because, over the years, I have had the privilege to know him at close range. President Mahama has been a consummate believer in constitutionalism,” he wrote.
Speak out on agitation to make you 'King of Ghana' – Kwesi Pratt to President Mahama
Kwesi Pratt Jnr had earlier called out President Mahama for his silence over calls for a third term. He urged the president to speak out on the agitation to make him “king of Ghana,” arguing that such calls were not only unconstitutional but “extremely foolish and must not be encouraged.”
The veteran journalist, in his post shared on August 28, said that Mahama’s declaration has made him proud as a friend.
“I have always held the view that leaders are not divine entities and must always make room for the democratic process to throw up opportunities for as many citizens as possible to serve.
“By this decision, President Mahama has made me proud again as his friend and comrade. May he succeed in resetting Ghana as he promised in his drive to become President of Ghana,” he wrote.
