Kwesi Nyantakyi snubs George Afriyie

Ghana Football Association vice President George Afriyie was left humiliated when his boss Kwesi Nyantakyi stormed past him without a handshake during the launch of the 2017 WAFU Tournament at the Labadi beach hotel in Accra.

At their first public appearance following the widely reported clash of the two, Afriyie was left red-faced as Nyantakyi snubbed him but proceeded to exchange handshakes with other dignitaries seated immediately after the Okyeman Planners owner.

George Afriyie, who was the first of the two to arrive at the venue, sat among other dignitaries at the outer row of the conference room before Nyantakyi’s arrival.

But the GFA president, arriving in the company of Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, Nana Benyin Eyison among others, stormed past Afriyie to exchange hands with the next guests seated after his vice.

Besides Nyantakyi, all the other dignitaries in the GFA president’s entourage, including the sports minister, engaged in healthy handshakes with the out-0f-favour GFA vice – a move which made the snub more pronounced.

Guests at the ceremony were dismayed when MC for the event, Nathaniel Attoh later introduced Afriyie as the Chairman of the LOC of the competition that was being launched, but the Black Stars chairman was nowhere near the high table and only waved at the crowd on the far side of the room.

There have been several reports of the frosty relationship between the two top officials of the Ghana FA.

The situation, however, hit an all-time low earlier this month when Afriyie allegedly launched a scathing attack on the CAF 1st vice president via a damaging text message.

At a meeting of the federation’s top guns weeks ago, Nyantakyi is reported to have announced his decision to sack Afriyie from his position as the GFA vice president, claiming he was no longer interested in working with him again.
