Kwame Ayew, now striking for Jesus

Like the Biblical Simon Peter, who quit his fishing profession and embarked on an evangelism mission, so has been the case of former Black Stars, Metz, Leiria, Lecce etc forward Kwame Ayew.

And after an illustrious international soccer career, scoring 124 goals between 1990 and 2007 with clubs like Vitória F.C.Boavista, Sporting,Yimpa? Yozgatspor, Kocaelispor,Changsha Ginde, Inter Shanghai, Vitória F.C., among others, the former dreadlocked striker is now a minister of the Gospel.

He is now the founder of Jesus is Alive Evangelistic Ministry and operates an NGO by name Reaching out for the poor organization.

Speaking to Happy FM's morning host Mr Charles Osei Asibey on "Where are they?" he revealed that the decision to "strike" for Christ is heavenly and that he had personally wanted to go into sports medicine.

"I had wanted to go into sports medicine after hanging by boots but I realized that evangelizing is my calling and the medicine and the football were just hobbies," he noted in the interview.

Reacting to what accounted for shaving his raster hair, he revealed speaking on his own behalf and that of his striking pal Maxwell Konadu that the 'bad' spirits that goes with wearing dreadlocks prompted himself and Max to quit wearing the locks. Born on December 28, 1973, Kwame, the junior brother of iconic Abedi Ayew Pele recollects with fond memories the achievement of Barcelona's Summer Olympics where Ghana(Black Meteors) won bronze and he(Kwame) finished as the second top scorer with six goals.

He is just two years in his evangelistic campaign but friends like Maxwell Konadu, Sammy Osei Kuffuor, Augustine Arhinful, Stephen Appiah, among others share his vision.
