President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to transform the Kwahu township into a world-class conference and tourism destination, complete with a permanent convention centre and airstrip.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum on March 4, 2026, the president revealed that government is partnering with real estate developers to construct a permanent convention centre at the site.
"We want to take this whole thing a step further. We are working with Metalex and Trasacco to build a permanent convention, conference and exhibition center on this site," he said.
President Mahama said the facility would position Kwahu not just as a domestic conference hub but as a destination for international organisations as well, with planned spaces for performances, meetings and exhibitions.

Beyond the convention centre, the president disclosed plans to overhaul the road network in the Kwahu area to ease the notorious congestion that plagues the Easter festival period, and to eventually construct an airstrip to accommodate both domestic and international flights.
"We want to have an airstrip here so that flights can come in, both domestically and people from outside who want to come and attend conferences," he stated.
Mahama expressed confidence that the Kwahu Business Forum would continue to grow in scale and significance, adding that he expects successive governments to remain committed patrons of the annual business event regardless of political affiliation.
