Kwabre Assembly Draws Up Disaster Management Plan

Mamponteng (Ashanti Region), Nov. 6 The Kwabre District Assembly has drawn up a District Disaster Plan to respond effectively in times of natural and man-made disasters. Mr Kwame Ampong, the District Chief Executive who made this known, said the plan was drawn up with technical assistance from the Ghana Red Cross Society. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Kwabre istrict Disaster Management Committee under his chairmanship at Mamponteng. He observed that disasters that have been occurring in the area such as bushfires and flooding could be prevented if the people had been a little circumspect and responsible. Mr Ampong, therefore, called on religious organisations and opinion leaders to join hands with the committee in its efforts at creating awareness on how to avoid disasters. Mr Alex Boakye, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who inaugurated the committee, said there is the for the committee to step up its education campaign against bushfires as the harmattan draws closer. In a welcoming address, Mr Samuel Brenya, Kwabre District Co- ordinator of the NADMO, appealed to the people to give the committee maximum support in the performance of its duties.
