Kwabena Duffour Is Cause Of Chaos In NDC

A former Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Seth Ofori, appears to have blown the lid on the rationale behind the persistent attacks on President Mills by some leading members of the ruling party and their footsoldiers.

The Law Professor has persistently been subjected to verbal abuse by the founder of the party, Mr. Jerry John Rawlings, who even went to the extent of referring to the President as a ‘Konongo Kaya’ during this year’s June 4th celebration at Tamale.

At a meeting held at his Ridge Residence in Accra with some footsolidiers early this year, Mr. Rawlings also attacked the man he himself anointed to take over from him, for surrounding himself with greedy bastards. Others like Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah and Nana Konadu have also been throwing punches at the President.

Mr. Rawlings and his wife have on many occasions, also accused President Mills of neglecting the footsoldiers who fought to bring the party back to power. Though the Rawlingses have also accused Professor Mills and leader of the party of filling his government with strangers, they have so far, not dropped any names.

Seth Ofori, a former director of communication who did a lot of media work during the campaign period, has now blown the lid, but however, insists he is not speaking for the Rawlingses. According to him, he does not see why Dr. Kwabena Duffour should be controlling the purse of the state, when he was not in the trenches with them.

Speaking on Metropolitan Television in Accra yesterday, and in a follow up interview with The Chronicle, newspaper, Seth Ofori said in the heat of the 2008 campaign, he sent several stories about then candidate Mills to the heritage newspaper, which is owned by Dr. Duffour, but they were not published.

He claimed the paper was rather attacking the NDC candidate, but immediately the party won power, President Mills appointed Dr. Duffour as his Finance Minister, though the party could boast of equally competent people to handle the position. Seth contended that if Dr. Kwabena Duffour was indeed, supporting the party, as is being peddled around, then he should have stopped his paper form attacking the party then in the opposition, but this never happened. He noted that the Finance Minister was no where around when the economic policy of the party was being drawn, yet he is the one calling the shots today.

Seth further told The Chronicle that apart from Dr. Kwabena Duffour, there were many others in government who did not contribute to the campaign of the party, yet they had found themselves in government.

The former communication director therefore, called on President Mills to balance the political scales, to ensure peace in the party.

According to him, the Ahwois had become so powerful in the party, which had led to a disconnection between the President and the founder of the party.

According to him, he has persistently been receiving calls from the grassroots, complaining bitterly about the seeming battle between President Mills and the founder of the party, Jerry John Rawlings.

Seth also claimed people had been going round the country saying all manner of things against Mr. Rawlings, forgetting that he was the founder of the party.

He insisted that if there should be peace in the party, all these negative developments must cease. Mr. Ato Ahwoi has meanwhile, refused to comment on Seth Ofori’s diatribe. He told The Chronicle that he was at a funeral, and could therefore, not respond to the accusation being leveled against the Ahwoi brothers.
