Kwabena Agyapong calls for unity in NPP

Embattled General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has called for unity in the party.

According to him, the current crisis in the party demands that all party officials are measured in their utterances, adding that some sensitive party matters must not be discussed in the public domain.

In a brief interview on Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday, Mr Agyapong, who has been asked to step aside by the Minority in Parliament, said the practice whereby almost every party member is called by a radio station to comment on the crisis in the party is not helpful at all.

Mr Agyapong had called into the programme to deny that, he (Agyapong) had asked the host, Kwame Nkrumah “Etikesie” to play him Daddy Lumba’s hit song, Yentie Obiaa” before the Morning show ends.

“I’m told that you [Kwame Nkrumah] had said on air that, I had asked you to play Yentie Obiaa for me. I want you to make the correction that I never made such a request to you,” he demanded.

The host of the Okay Morning Show conceded that, Mr Agyapong never made the statement and subsequently apologized to listeners. Kwame Nkrumah later explained that it was rather a listener who sent a text message requesting for that song.

After accepting the apology, Mr. Agyapong refused to comment further on other matters.
