Kwabena Adjei did not advocate for power sharing - Ade Coker

The wrangling over power-sharing, according to some, is what has led to a paralyzed Zimbabwean government. Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF and Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) both settled on power-sharing to mired bitter disputes in their country after an election results was challenged. This has not helped though.

Thus, it was a bit of a surprise when National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr., Kwabena Adjei, alluded to an “all-inclusive” government.

Dr Adjei attributed the tense political situation in the country to the winner-takes-all environment and said from now onwards “let us share. This country belongs to all of us”.

He pledged that, whichever way the Supreme Court verdict would go on August 29, 2013, nothing untoward would happen in Ghana because as politicians, “all of us have had lives in opposition and in government before”.

Following his remarks, many are those who believe the NDC bigwig is calling for ‘power-sharing’ if the final verdict of the 2012 election petition does not favour them in the interest of peace.

But the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Joseph Ade Coker has sought to discount the report.

Speaking on Adom FM, Ade Coker stressed that his National Chair’s comments were made not because the NDC fears it will lose the petition case.

Nonetheless, he believes should the election petition ruling go against the NDC, it will be appropriate for the country as well as the opposition party to recognize potential qualities from the opposing side for consideration in government.

“When Obama (US President) became the president, he did maintain some cabinet members of the Bush administration including the defense secretary of the US. He (Prez Obama) did not share power with the Republicans; he maintained them in his government.

“…We must get this clear that Dr, Kwabena Adjei, my boss…under no circumstances on the platform of the NPP anniversary did he say there should be power sharing. So if someone can contribute to the development of this country, why can’t we make the person solve solutions? That is inclusiveness …not power sharing…,” he noted.
