The clash between a police officer and some military personnel from Uaddara Barracks in Kumasi in the Ashanti Regional capital has been blown out of proportion in the media, according to police.

“The issue is not a serious one at all as being reported in the media”, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah has stated.

Some soldiers on duty guard at the barracks Monday allegedly assaulted a uniformed officer with the regional police command for using an “unauthorized” road linking the regional Post Office to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses reports, the soldiers argue it was late for the police officer to use the route but the officer ignored instructions of the military personnel manning the main entrance sparking the confrontation attracting the attention of the public.

Regional Police crime Officer, Peter Baba earlier confirmed his outfit has received report from the assaulted officer stating investigations are underway.

But the Regional Commander updating listeners of Nhyria FM in Kumasi contradicted the Regional Crime Officer’s claim that the command has received official complaint from the assaulted officer.

“To the best of my knowledge nobody has lodged any official complaints to the command. I have talked to the military high command and we are going to investigate the incident and apply proper sanctions according to our security laws” he told host Nhyria morning Show.
