Ten suspects linked to an alleged cannabis trafficking syndicate operating within Kumasi and its surrounding communities appeared before court over the on March 13, 2026, following their arrest by the Tafo Pankrono Special Operatives Task Force.
The alleged owner of the seized narcotics identified only as “Nana 1,” however, remains at large.
The suspects, comprising Nine men and one woman, were arraigned by the Narcotics Control Authority as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal drug activities in the Ashanti Region.
The court, however, granted the accused persons bail pending further investigations.
According to the National Enquiry Newspaper report on Tuesday March 17, 2026, “The arrests followed an intelligence-led exercise carried out by a special task force from the Tafo Pankrono Division.
The team was made up of five senior police officers and five community police personnel.
During the operation, the task force reportedly intercepted a substantial quantity of cannabis believed to be part of a wider drug distribution network operating in Kumasi and its environs and they were allegedly offered huge amounts of money as bribe but the operatives refused and carried out the successful operation.
“Investigations by security agencies indicate that the alleged owner of the seized narcotics, identified only as “Nana 1,” remains at large.”

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has since launched a manhunt for the suspected kingpin as investigations into the activities of the syndicate continue.
The Tafo Pankrono Police Commander has compiled a detailed report on the successful operation, which is expected to be forwarded to the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in Accra.
The report is said to include recommendations for possible promotion of the officers who participated in the operation.
