Kufuor inspects Kpone affordable housing project

Kpone, March 29, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday inspected construction works on the 1,640 low cost housing units being undertaken by the Government at Kpone, near Tema, and described what he saw as impressive.

The project is progressing steadily with the blocks of flats at different levels of construction.

These flats are of various types with some having one bedroom and others two bedrooms.

A total of 97 contractors are on site.

This project, together with those in Kumasi and Borteman in the Greater Accra Region, is being funded at a cost of over 300 million dollars and forms part of the drive by the Government to reduce the country's housing deficit, estimated at about 500,000.

President Kufuor, accompanied by the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, asked the contractors to ensure that the project was completed and delivered on schedule.

Mr Ernest Biney, the consultant, said the houses would be ready by the close of the year.

Construction of the blocks officially commenced in September, last year. In all 300 acres of land have been acquired by the Government for the Kpone Project.
