Krofrom chaos: REGSEC must probe further - Manhyia

The Manhyia palace has waded into the ensuing impasse between irate residents of Krofrom in Kumasi and the regional Police command, urging calm among the two parties.

The locals of the Ashanti region town have been on rampage over the death of 22-year-old Richmond Osei aka Tawiah following alleged police brutality. Family members and town folks went berserk Tuesday when autopsy report exonerated the police of any wrongdoing.

Although the doctor who conducted the autopsy on the body has strongly denied claims by relatives of the deceased he took bribe from the Police, the youth of the area continue to rampage.

Speaking to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice, the Otumfuo Manwerehene Baffour Osei Brentuo Hyiaman urged the Ashanti regional Security Council to also open its own independent investigations into the matter and see if it would come out with different findings as to the actual cause of death.

“The regional security council can take it up for investigations to take place to get to the bottom of the matter. If it’s the Police versus the youth, the Police cannot come in as judges in their own case, there should be a third body and that third body should be able to cool tempers.

“But paramount in all these is the peace that we need in this region. The things that are happening lately here are not good for the region and there is no traditional leader who will be happy with such developments. There appears to be some heat somewhere and we should be in the position to resolve those matters as we go into the polls in November,” he said.
