Kpone–Katamanso NCCE sensitizes residents on bribery and corruption

The Kpone Katamanso Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has held a day's symposium on bribery and corruption for residents of Kubekro, a settlement in the Municipality.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdulai Mumuni, Zenu–Atadeka District Police Commander, in a keynote address revealed that, it was unfortunate that citizens always perceived officers in uniform as corrupt.

DSP Mumuni noted that, everyone was capable of being corrupt and not only officers in uniform adding that had it not been for the undercover work of ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, he would not have believed that some judges whose duty was to interpret the law were also corrupt.

He added that, one way the country could cure itself from the corruption and bribe menace was to enhance self-discipline among its citizens adding that it might not be completely eradicated but would be reduced drastically.

Mr. Oliver Agbenyo, Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Director of the NCCE in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the Commission was mandated by the 1992 Constitution to engage citizens and find a lasting solution to the fight against the bribery and corruption canker.

According to him, the menace was increasing by the day and the Commission must together with stake holders rise up to bring the situation to its barest minimum.

Mr. Agbenyo also called on the government and other benevolent organizations to assist the Commission in the fight against bribery and corruption by equipping it with the needed logistics and financial support to engage more residents and other stakeholders.

In attendance were chiefs, political parties’ representatives, concern youths, apprentices, the clergy, residents and Mr Joseph Nii Lartey Afotey Agbo, the Member of Parliament for the area.
