Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong believes his team would be able to end their winless run when they lock horns with regional rivals Ashanti Gold in matchday four of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The 26-year-old has been ruled out of the Asante derby after failing to recover from an injury sustained on opening day against Liberty Professionals.

Kotoko have conceded seven goals in their last two trips to Obuasi where the game will be played but the centre-back claims they have the men to stop their hosts.

“We will fight for all three points to make the travelling supporters happy. Ashanti Gold have a good team but we also know our target for the season and for us to achieve that, we have to hand them their second defeat of the campaign,” Frimpong told Agyenkwa FM.

“We have the best squad in the league and that is a fact. None of the players in other clubs can be compared to us. I know the game will be difficult but Kotoko will win even in my absence. We will stop Ashanti Gold this time around.

Frimpong also revealed he is likely to start training next week following notable improvement in his situation.

"I have not fully recovered from the injury but the pain has reduced. I can do a lot of things on my own now and hope to start light training next week before I join the first team for the subsequent games,’’ he added.

Kotoko are unbeaten after three games and sit second on the log with seven points while Ashanti Gold are sixth with four points.
