It has emerged that residents of Konongo Odumase in the Ashanti region are involved in massive galamsey activities in their own homes.

Domestic mining, according to sources, is a rising activity in the area.

Deputy Minister of Water, Lands and Natural resources Kwabena Mintah Akando who is shocked by development has instructed the security agencies to arrest all persons involved in the act.

“Since I came to the ministry, today is my saddest day. To see people mining in their homes is very dangerous. This is a very old town so already, the base is not that strong and now they are digging and eating up the shaft which is holding the houses.

“So they are cracking the whole system and collapsing it, this is very dangerous. Going forward, we are going to take serious measures and the security agencies are going to move in to stop these activities,” he told Starr News’ Isaac Bediako Justice who toured the area with him Wednesday.

He, however, expressed disappointment in the traditional authorities in the area for watching unconcerned for the situation to degenerate when they could have hinted government to step in.
