Koforidua celebrate Black Stars victory

Koforidua, June 17, GNA- The main streets of Koforidua were turned into a carnival as thousands of soccer fans poured out of their homes into the street in celebration of the 2-0 victory of the Ghana Black Stars over Czech Republic on Saturday evening.

The celebrations started immediately the Black Stars scored their second goal, the vendors of musical cassettes and CDs increased the volumes of their speakers and played religious songs while some soccer fans stopped watching their television sets to dance to the tunes being played behind the Ghana Commercial Bank building at the Central Business District of Koforidua. The number of people celebrating on the streets increased after the final whistle, as some soccer fans came out bare chest, running along the road while some were moved in groups with various musical instruments celebrating the victory.

At the hostel of the Koforidua Polytechnic on the Koforidua-Mamfi road, the students partially blocked the road and solicited for funds from motorists to purchase "Alomo Bitters" a popularly local brew, to celebrate the victory. At the time of going to press, the number of customers at Circle Spot and the Mobile One Spot, two of the most popular drinking spots at the Koforidua Municipality had started increasing as some soccer fans converge to celebrate the victory with some bottles of alcoholic beverages.
