Koforidua SECTECH celebrates 50th anniversary

Koforidua Secondary Technical School popularly known as SECTECH has celebrated its golden jubilee anniversary over the weekends with memorable series of events to mark the occasion.

Speaking on the theme, “Re-defining education for service to meet current and future economic demands in Ghana”, CEO of National Health Insurance Authority who was the Guest Speaker of the event, said Ghana has failed to be named among the top technological nations in Africa despite several years of technical education.

In view of this, Barima Ba Dr. Samuel Yaw Annor, said Ghanaians need to stop having large appetite for foreign products and patronise made-in-Ghana goods in order to encourage more production of quality products.

He said, this will also motivate scientists and technicians trained by the technical institutions in the country other higher learning institutions to be innovative and come up with meaningful inventions needed to solve the myriad of challenges facing mother Ghana.

Headmaster of SECTECH, Barima Ba Samuel Prince Foli expressed gratitude to God for blessing the school.

He used the occasion to share with parents, old students and guests about the successes of the school has chalked over the years.

He made a passionate appeal to GETFUND to complete the new dormitory so as to ease congestion in the four existing dormitories.

Mr. Foli also commended the PTA and the Old Students’ Association for their continuous support.

He praised the Old Students’ Association for constructing a new state of the art entrance for the school, as well as efforts to renovate the school Pantry and the commencement of work on a multi-purpose assembly hall.

The headmaster promised to work with the staff to ensure the school becomes one of the best in the country not only in academics but also in discipline.

For his part, President of the Old Students’ Association, Barima Ba Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah made a passionate call on government and corporate bodies to come to the school’s aid and construct the multi-purpose assembly hall for the school.

When completed, the hall, according to him will be the first of its kind in Ghana for a second cycle school to have such and edifice that is designed for indoor sporting activities which can accommodate close to 4000 seats.

To maintain the status of the Koforidua Sectech, Mr. Yeboah said as a hybrid of mini military academy and Massachusetts Institute of Technology thus providing high standards of discipline and practical technological knowledge, all stakeholders especially Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, PTA, among others must join forces with the association to implement their 20-year development plan.

He sai, with this the challenge of over population and lack of state-of-the-art laboratory, lack of logistics and other challenges will be a thing of past.

The ceremony which was chaired by Barima Ba Ing. Jonathan Amoako Baah CEO of GRIDCO, was attended by Hon Asibe Yeboah, Barima Ba Ing. Samuel Appiah Boakye ceo of ECG, Barima Ba Rev Prof. Charles Ansah Pro vice Chancellor of KNUST, Barima Ba Prof. Samuel Odai immediate past Pro VC of KNUST, Barima Ba Rev Christian Koramoah Financial Controller of GES as well as the Regional Director of Education, Municipal Director of education and many well-wishers.
