More than 80 youth in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region have acquired knowledge in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the IPMC training facility at Esiama to equip them with skills to be in tune with modern technology in a competitive globalised world.

The one-month training programme which started in June this year, took the trainees through Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Publisher.

The brain behind this initiative is the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah who also sponsored this one month free ICT training for the Senior High school graduates in the area.

In a remark, the Centre Director of the Esiama IMPC learning centre, Mr. Jerry Jones Afful acknowledged the effort of his instructors and the professional manner in which they handled the trainees during the one month period.

He also used the opportunity to commend the MP for his wonderful kind hearted dream of ICT development for the youth in the area.

Mr. Afful was optimistic that the knowledge acquired will propel the trainees in any advanced ICT programme or career they wish to undertake in the future.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the MP acknowledged the fact that, the world today is moving at a faster rate with the help of ICT, making it very easy to bridge the gap between the rural and urban people and also helping to reduce the rate of poverty that has engulfed the world especially the developing world.

He was emphatic that without ICT, it will become difficult to deal with issues of security, development and poverty in this 21st century where Technology has taken a centre stage of almost everything we do.

Of his intention to sponsor his constituents he said, "I have committed myself to see to the realizations of the dreams and aspirations of the teeming youth in my constituency in areas such as higher education, profitable business ventures and vocational and technical skills".

He continued by saying ‘’this free ICT program and many others that will follow, are all aimed at giving you the necessary skills and tools required to work in sophisticated working environments and to free you from too much financial dependency ’’.

He assured the current graduates of his commitment to support with 20% course fee and a free laptop to those who will enrol in an advanced ICT programme from the Western College of Technology-IMPC learning centre in Esiama.

In his closing remark, the Chairman for the occasion, Nana Mireku-Tumi I, Daamuhene of Akyim Atwereso, advised the youth to put into practice, the knowledge they have acquired and also upgrade themselves in the career they have chosen for themselves in order to secure a brighter future as IT professionals.

Receiving their certificates, the beneficiaries expressed their utmost appreciation to their MP for this training and for giving them the opportunity to be part of the maiden training.

They, however, assured the MP that his investment will not go waste as they promised to further to become sought after IT experts in the Ellembelle District and Ghana at large.

Each participant received a certificate of participation in Microsoft office user professional issued by IPMC.
