The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Akpaloo, who was arrested on September 3, 2025, was freed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, after satisfying the conditions of a GH¢10 million bail granted by the agency.
A video by 1957 News captured the moment Akpaloo walked out of EOCO’s premises in Accra, receiving hugs from friends and loved ones.

In a brief comment, Akpaloo linked his arrest and detention to politics, suggesting it was retaliation for his criticism of the government.
"They said they are conducting investigations, but as you know, it is all politics. The things I said the last time are what have formed the basis for their actions," he told the media.
Akpaloo was arrested in a dawn operation at his Kumasi residence by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit, in collaboration with its Ashanti Regional Office.

He is under investigation for alleged financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and falsification of documents, linked to a commercial dispute involving a private contract.
Although bail was initially set at GH¢10 million with two sureties, he remained in EOCO custody for several days due to challenges in meeting the conditions.
