Kofi Akpaloo breaks silence after EOCO release

Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has alleged that his arrest and detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was politically motivated.

In an interview with Adom FM, monitored by GhanaWeb on Friday, September 12, 2025, he claimed that Frank Kwaku Appiah, a staunch supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) popularly known as Appiah Stadium, had prior knowledge of his detention and even threatened him several times.

“After the military helicopter crash, I made certain comments, and I believe my detention was meant to punish me. Last Wednesday, September 3, EOCO came to my house in Kumasi to inform me that they needed me to assist in investigations.

"But Appiah Stadium had already told me that after the burial of the crash victims. I would be picked up by EOCO, so, I should be ready. Because of that, I packed my bags and carried a few items I would need for a week, so I was there with my luggage,” Akpaloo narrated.
