Kobby Fiagbe explains why Nana Addo got an ostrich egg

The studios of JoyFM was full of humour when Kobby Fiagbe, editor of 'The Lens' took time to reflect on the aftermath of the just ended NPP primaries, specifically the ostrich egg which was presented as a gift to Nana Akuffo-Addo by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.

He first spoke about the formation of the new political party, the United Front Party (UFP), which is said to have its roots in the Ashanti Region, the “World Bank” of the opposition NPP. According to him, he knew about the existence of the party but decided not publish it in his paper the “Ghanaian Lens”.

“This was because people might have deemed it mischievous and said it was coming from the NDC,” Mr. Fiagbe said.

He claimed that eventhough Nana Addo won overwhelmingly, everyone knew there were “manipulations to his advantage” to ensure he became victorious.

“For the good of the party,” Mr. Fiagbe stated that “candidates who contested in the race came out to say we are satisfied and okay.”

Mr. Fiagbe quizzed Kwaku Sakyi Addo, host of JoyFM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, whether he knew why Professor Frimpong Boateng chose to give an ostrich egg to Nana Addo?

He explained that giving someone such gift signifies “burying one’s head in the sand.” As claimed by the “Ghanaian Lens” Editor, Professor Boateng had wanted to say to Nana Addo that “all is not well within our party, yet we have elected you.”

“…it was a nice but an intelligent way of using an object to convey a message to Nana Addo,” Mr. Fiagbe added.
