Kobbie Mainoo is ten times the player I was at 19 - Paul Scholes hails youngster

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has praised 'special' Kobbie Mainoo for his outstanding performance in the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City.

Mainoo was pivotal as the Red Devils secured a remarkable 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils took the lead in the first half through Alejandro Garnacho, who capitalized on a Josko Gvardiol error to slot home the opener.

Manchester United doubled their advantage at Wembley Stadium when Bruno Fernandes provided a clever assist to Mainoo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

However, a goal by Belgian-born Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku was not enough, as Manchester United emerged victorious to clinch the title over their rivals.

After the game, Scholes took to social media to praise the young midfielder, saying he is a special player.

"Read a few comparisons between me and this kid last week; don't waste your time, he is ten times the player I was at 19."

Mainoo has been named in England's Euro 2024 provisional squad and will be hoping to make the cut for the tournament scheduled for next month in Germany.
